Artist Statement:

I have no profound statement to make about most of what I paint.  The purpose of my work is simply to create a sense of silliness. I hope to inspire laughter with my goofy sense of humor.

My friends are a big part of that inspiration and are in included in many of the paintings along with the famous “Buttercup”.  Little did they know she would be posing next to them!

Of course not all of my work reflects that mood.  I try to stay true to the people who have commissioned me with a specific purpose in mind, or when my church has asked me to create a seasonal piece, or when I paint a primitive wedding portrait.  In that case I listen carefully and pray a lot that the result pleases them.

Buttercup of Barking Bull Studio

My work history reads like a vocation test. I have taught school in inner-city Detroit schools, worked as a mate/cook aboard large private yachts, managed a motel, been a hostess in several clubs and restaurants, worked for Riva Yachts in Palm Beach, sold advertising, had my own import store, been a 911 operator for the West Palm Beach P.D., was a field-coordinator for a national home building corporation, worked for a contractor building mansions on the ocean, (Whew!!) worked as a project manager for a sign co., was a receptionist at a large law firm, managed a furniture store, worked for another construction company and then a cabinet components place.  I worked again for the city of West Palm Beach, this time as the "Pothole Queen" for the "Streets & Drainage Dept" until I received a promotion to the "Garbage Dept" (this, by the way, was my favorite job). (Would you believe I did not include every job I’ve ever had, and I am not 92.)
